Welcome to Evening of Sevdah6th Anniversary Evening of SevdahThis year's Evening of Sevdah features special guest, the beloved child star from Bosnia and Herzegovina, Miss Alma Subasic. Miss Subasic will be accompanied one of America's finest musicians from Bosnia, Mr. Sakib Jakupovic. Muhamed Kocan will return from San Jose for his second appearance in Seattle, and there is a wonderful group of local sevdah artists, too. Please read more about them on our About Us page. To celebrate the opportunity to hear these fine artists, our concert will be held in Nordstrom Recital Hall at Benaroya Hall, Seattle's most prestigious venue.
This concert is part of the broader “North American Days of Sevdah" organized by Sevdah North America. This is one of many concerts being held in cities throughout North America. This annual event has touched thousands through live performances which are later broadcast via satellite throughout Europe and North America. There are currently about 5,000 Bosnians living in the greater Seattle area out of 350,000 in the United States. Sevdah North America recognizes that tradition sevdah music provides an invaluable bridge for children of Bosnian immigrants and refugees who were born in North America, and takes people back to a time before their lives were shattered by war, trauma and displacement.
