Join us for an evening Inspired by Bosnian Love Songs

7th Anniversary Evening of Sevdah

At Evening of Sevdah we are, as always, committed to bringing you the best performances of Sevdah music. This year we're making a departure from our previous all-traditional music event. In an attempt to bring these exotic tunes from the distant Balkan peninsula and country of Bosnia and Herzegovina closer to our local Northwest audience, our music director Nedim Hamzic, who was born and raised in Sarajevo, came up with an unusual idea - to assemble a band of local musicians and artists from Seattle who will add musical flavors of the Pacific Northwest to this beautiful Sevdah music, mixing it with classical and jazz sounds. Some of the songs will feature a ballet dance act performed by the local dance group VAM Performance, Jr. Company, making this year's event a truly unique and unforgettable experience.

Music director Nedim Hamzic was heavily influenced by his native Balkan music, but also from the music of the West as a result of the social movements of the 60's and 70's. He attended classical guitar school throughout his childhood and started playing professionally in 1981. In those early years he performed a fusion of rock, jazz, classical and Balkan folk music. Throughout his career he played in numerous ground breaking bands throughout former Yugoslavia. Coming to Seattle as a refugee in 1995, Mr. Hamzic has a new found respect and longing for his native music, while appreciating Seattle's special music aesthetic. This inspired him to create this unique concert.
